Have you been the victim of a romance scam? 💔

The AFP is working with Philippine authorities to identify Australian victims of romance scams after more than 250 suspected cyber criminals were arrested in Manila.

Men over the age of 35 were allegedly targeted by the scammers on social media and dating apps. It is alleged the accused built trust with victims before asking them to invest money in a fraudulent cryptocurrency trading platform.

I hate when I hear that an officer has told a victim “The money is overseas; there’s nothing we can do.” How about we say “Let me see what I can do for you.” There are so many resources out there that can and will help. You just have to ask.

The scam

HOW DOES IT WORK?

About a specific case of pig butchering

the past 3 years. In this case, the scammers targeted a 61-year old man, a retired government employee, through a dating site. But the scam was different than previous pig butchering operations we had documented. It leveraged parts of another type of scam we had seen previously—a fake passive income scheme based on the concept of liquidity mining.

This week we published the conclusion of that investigation. I found that there were over 90 victims hit by a cluster of three scam operations using the exact same smart contract and fake “DeFi” website code. The groups took $1.2 million from victims that we identified, and $2.9 million total from all sources.

You can read the conclusion here:

FROM JIM BROWNING

He explains very clearly the process of the Pig butchering Scam in an incredible video

Please tune in to Jim Browning's latest...
Here's why it matters:
1)
These scammers are located in Dubai.
But run by the same Chinese organized crime syndicates.
2)
They are targeting South Americans.

I've been jibber jabbering about this for a while now, but this video makes it crystal clear that the scammers are increasing their worldwide footprint both in the locations of scammers and the locations of targets.

It's time for worldwide collaboration.
And that's what #operationshamrock is all about.
